Attention Third Grade Teachers – Free Animal Diversity Curriculum!

Button - Click HereThis program is designed specifically for third-grade teachers and students. The lessons anGiraffe baby09-Fred Cated activities are designed to meet Indiana’s state-mandated standards of learning. They explore how animals adapt to their environments in a variety of ways, creating the infinite diversity of the natural world.  During the program, you and your students will complete five interactive lessons, both in the classroom and out. During your final unit you and your class can take a field trip to the Indianapolis Zoo and explore animal adaptations to learn more about how animal body parts help them survive in their habitat.  Click button to download the curriculum guide. Education Kits
Our Education Trunks give your students hands-on activities focusing on animals here at the Zoo and around the world. Kits include a teacher's manual and props like books, "artifacts," posters and activities. All kits fulfill selected Indiana Academic Standards. The kits are available to elementary and secondary grade levels throughout Indiana. You may borrow trunks for a two-week period. The cost is $10 per kit. Call (317) 630-2000 Monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm for more information or to reserve an education kit.

Developed with a grant from SBC, the snake kit provides resources to dispel myths and fears while your students learn about these fascinating reptiles. Resources include: a snake skeleton, skulls, videos, posters, books, snake mounts, curriculum, slides and more.  Photo by Paul Riley

Project Elephant Kit
Use the kit on its own, or as a pre- or post- activity with a Zoo visit. Items found in the kit include food samples, elephant tail hair, a replica tooth, elephant curriculum, posters, books, videos, slides, elephant biographies, and ultrasound images.

Elephant Tombi-Susan LangProject Elephant Curriculum On-Line
To go along with the Project Elephant Kit, the Zoo created a multi-disciplinary, elephant focused, curriculum for elementary and secondary students. This curriculum is best when used with the kit but can be utilized on its own in your classroom. Activities range from observing elephant behavior to calculating the height of an elephant to reconstructing an elephant "skeleton." The curriculum is available at no charge. Click here to go to the Project Elephant page.

Feathers, Fins, and Furry Tales Trunk
The Feathers, Fins and Furry Tales Trunk (or FFF) is designed to stimulate young students' curiosity prior to their Zoo visit is filled with games, audio cassettes, video tapes, books, hands-on artifacts, and curriculum idea. Hundreds of activities, worksheets and bulletin board ideas are included. 

Suitcase for Survival
Explore the relationship between endangered species and the trade in wildlife products using a Suitcase for Survival in your classroom! Watch as your students look at and touch an anaconda skin, ivory tusk, ocelot skin, sea turtle boots, rhino horn pills, and other illegally traded wildlife products. The experience will sensitive all to the impact that purchasing decisions can have on wildlife around the world.
